2013 - Stitch that Stash!

I took a short sabbatical from sewing during the holidays and I'm eager to get back to it! I have a few zippered pouches to share that I made as Christmas gifts. I order my zippers from Zipit. My last order came with a little something extra.... a pretty zipper pull! If you look closely you can see it on the pouch below.

Cindy gifted me her leftover Indie "scraps" ( I use that word loosely as the scraps were large) and I made this pouch for my sister. Thank-you, Cindy. You are always so generous.

 This was made using scraps from my Chicopee quilt. 

My traveling bag is made from a precious stash of fabric from UK friends.

This little polka dot pouch is for a friend and was so fun to make. It's only about 4 inches wide and 3 inches tall. I used this pattern.

I've joined a new bee called Stitch that Stash. It's headed up by the very talented Krista of Krista Stitched. January is my month to be queen bee and I'm starting it off with two 12.5 inch Churn Dash blocks. Some of my favorite quilting is done with traditional blocks and contemporary fabric. 

I looked through my stash and chose my Hometown fabric by Sweetwater and used this pattern. I had enough fabric left over to make a tumbler quilt. It feels good to sew with fabric that has been idling on a shelf or in a scrap basket! And that is a goal of mine for 2013!

Festive Fabric Flowers

These festive flower brooches are fun to make and look more complicated than they are! I used this tutorial. If you decide to make these, I recommend having a glue gun handy. I preferred using that over fabric glue. I seem to get a better hold. Yes! I like lots of marshmallows with my hot chocolate!

 I used a flower to dress up a zippered pouch gift. Two gifts in one!

On another subject, a few readers asked what pattern I used for this quilt. The quilt is made with alternating Puss in the Corner Blocks. The following isn't meant to be a tutorial but more of a visual of how the blocks are pieced.

Alternate the solid and print fabric.

Piece together as shown.

1 Center Square:  5 x 5 inches
4 Small Squares:  2 3/4 x 2 3/4 inches
4 Rectangles:  2 3/4 x 5 inches
9 inch finished block

A Cozy Chicopee Quilt Finish

I made this quilt to use as a cuddle quilt for the couch. It's extra long so it will cover the toes of anyone cocooned in it! It makes me grumpy when I'm all wrapped and toasty and pop....my feet stick out at the end of the blanket? 

I backed it with a nice flannel so I'm hoping it won't get little fuzz balls as the years go by. The flannel was stashed at the back of my quilting closet so I didn't have to go out and buy anything. (Smile, Mr. White Socks!) A stash comes in handy!

I empathize with anyone who has to take photos under a constant grey sky!

It's sunny most of the time where we live. But during the winter we have a sullen fog that tends to linger. And today was not the best for picture taking. 

One of my favorite bloggers  sent me the MOST beautiful package of fabric. She knows that I'm crazy about Cath Kidston and how difficult it is to get her fabric here. I was in fabric heaven when I unfolded the triangle and there were more fabrics wrapped inside. I'll show them to you next time. I have a plan!!
