Simply the Season

These are my very "organic" Simple Sewn Gifts hearts. Hmmmm....need a little more practice. I love their vintage look. Helen's are stunning. These will

get a remake for Valentine's Day. 

My sister found more beautiful Christmas tea towels. She has a very generous heart and is always on the lookout for treasures I might like.

I used this tutorial for my pincushion. It's a mini great granny block! :o)

And my mug rug is reminiscent of these from a previous project. 

On a different note, I'm running to catch up with Bee in My Bonnet's Row Along.

It's All Goodness

I haven't gotten much sewing done lately but all for good reason. Our little granddaughter, Callie Jane was born 2 weeks ago. 

As soon as we got the call that Callie was on her way I hopped on a plane.

My son's family lives in San Antonio..... a mere 1, 577 miles from where we live. So when I visit, I stay a little while. 

Just pet her gently like you pet the dog.

Silas and I were best pals and had lots of time to play together. I'll tell you...when it was time for me to leave.... my heart broke into bitty pieces. 

My sister had our friend make this beautiful sweater for Callie. Barbara does the most exquisite work. Barbara....if you read this.....thank you so much! It's a treasure.

I have a few projects to share on Wednesday. It's nice to be back in the sewing swing of things. Sewing has a way of helping soothe long distance heartache.

Travellin' Pic Stitch Blog Hop on location......

As part of the Travellin' Pic Stitch Blog Hop hosted by Laura and Katy I thought I'd drop us off at one of my favorite locations. We've had a family cabin at Huntington Lake in the Sierra Nevada range in California for 80 years. It's our number one place to visit in the summer.

 Our task as hoppers was to take a photo and create a fabric color pallate from the photo and then transfer those colors to a paper pieced creation.

My goal was to sew hexagons representing the colors of the water, trees and wildflowers.  If you squint and use a lot!! of imagination you might see the inspiration in my pillow.

The fabric is Cameo by Amy Butler.

The cabin is now shuttered up for the winter. It will soon be buried in snow.

There will be a party with prizes at the end of the hop on November 30th.

Loulouthi Star Quilt and Pillow Finish

Do you have a  favorite quilt holder?

In my last post I showed this quilt top.  I was undecided about what color border and binding to use. I guess I'm pretty predictable because I went with my favorite Kona White for the border. I wish I owned stock in Kona White..... 

  
I used Loulouthi Triflora Lipstick (love that name) binding to pull out that particular rosy pink color in the quilt. 

I remembered that I had paper pieced a loulouthi New York Beauty block months ago that was hiding along with other WIPs. I pulled that out and made a pillow to go with the quilt.

And now I'm very happy:o)because my guest room will have a mini-makeover just in time for the holidays.

Dear Mr. Claus and AMH winner

Congratulations to Kelly from Jeliquilts for winning the AMH scraps and pieces.

I ordered two charm packs of Dear Mr. Claus by Cosmo Cricket with the idea of making a small Christmas quilt for our grandson. I especially liked the old fashioned Santa in this line. Guess what......no Mr. Claus in the charm packs. Once I got over my disappointment I decided the fabric could be better used to make a few gifts. Using half square triangles, I put together a few variations.

They are lined with Insul-Bright making them more versatile.

We have a  mug rug......or

 a pot holder......or

or a candle mat. 

As we all know there has been horrific devastation on the East Coast because of Hurricane Sandy. My blogging friend Jennifer, from Knotted-Thread has issued a plea to quilters. She's asking for help making quilt blocks and for donations. Please see her flickr group set up with all the information you'll need. Quilters have a wonderful way of offering support whenever and wherever they're needed.
