Yum! Yum! Ice Cream

I've finished the top of my Happy Mochi Yum Yum quilt. It's 62 1/2 by 82 1/2 which is bit larger than most of my quilts. I need 5 yards of fabric for the backing which translates into big $$$. 

                                       

        

 I don't usually like spending my fabric budget (budget? huh?) on backing. I have a bolt of Kona white so I thought I'd piece together some of that with leftover Mochi.

I need to get a picture of Mochi outside with Mr. White Socks holding it up. Somehow these indoor pictures aren't catching the vibrancy of the colors. I believe Monica Solorio Snow named her fabric line after Japanese Mochi Ice Cream. I think she got it just right!

The backing, border and polka dot binding are from Alex Anderson's collection, Redwork Rendevous.

And a bit of advice for anyone washing a red and white quilt.........don't forget the Color Catchers!

Finish Along and Winner!

We just returned from a trip to San Antonio where we visited family. I always feel a little a lot heartbroken when we leave them. We live in California so it isn't a trip we take spontaneously!

I haven't been sewing this last week so I thought I'd share something that has been a work in progress. Actually, it's a work left  behind. This table runner is at least four years old. When I put it away (stuck it in a drawer) I wasn't that fond of it. When I pulled it out recently, I liked it again! Rhonda's Finish Along has inspired me to finish this and a few other projects including these two quilts.

Should I have been working on my Hello Pilgrim blocks this past week? Or my Swoon blocks which are languishing away at the bottom of a stack?

After all, those blocks came before these.

But I was lured away by the temptations of Happy Mochi Yum Yum!

So, is the answer my friends blowin' in the wind or should I make a list and stick to it?

I finished my Zigzag tote bag for the Zakka Style Sew Along. I used a turquoise linen blend and Piece O' Cake's Treasures and Tidbits for the zigzags. The lining is Denyse Schmidt's Sugar Creek Floral Meadow.
