As part of the Travellin' Pic Stitch Blog Hop hosted by Laura and Katy I thought I'd drop us off at one of my favorite locations. We've had a family cabin at Huntington Lake in the Sierra Nevada range in California for 80 years. It's our number one place to visit in the summer.
Our task as hoppers was to take a photo and create a fabric color pallate from the photo and then transfer those colors to a paper pieced creation.
My goal was to sew hexagons representing the colors of the water, trees and wildflowers. If you squint and use a lot!! of imagination you might see the inspiration in my pillow.
The fabric is Cameo by Amy Butler.
The cabin is now shuttered up for the winter. It will soon be buried in snow.
There will be a party with prizes at the end of the hop on November 30th.
Check them out here........Quokkaquilts!
See you soon! xoxoxo

Beautiful hexi pillow! I am seeing those colorful wild flowers in my imagination! :-). What a neat thing to have in the family, a meeting spot to carry on thru generations. Ya gotta' love that!
Wow! When I was a kid (many moons ago) we used to go camping at Huntington Lake! It was roughing it quite a bit! I remember getting sunburned after a day by the the lake & in a rowboat and then it getting so cold at night all our food froze! Good times, but I think it cured my mom & I of ever wanting to camp again! But it was beautiful & really rather remote. I'm talking probably late 50s
Your cushion is beautiful. great choice of colours, I love your cabin, it looks so pieceful there. Can I come and visit.
Cameo captures those colours beautifully. Your cabin looks like a wonderful place to recharge and enjoy fresh air.
What a gorgeous pillow, Deborah! I love it!!

Oh, that blue water looks so nice! A beautiful spot to have a cabin! And a lovely hexy pillow too:)
Just found you via Buttiontree Lane, and love your blog! And sewing, of course! I've been thinking of a hexy cushion for my sister's birthday, and I stumbled upon your blog- it's exactly as I pictured it! I'm going to use Ink and Spindle fabrics though, as they are her favourite. I hope my cushion looks half as gorgeous as yours!
Oh yes, I can definitely see the inspiration across the photos, great cushion and looks like a lovely place to visit! (makes mental note of place to stop off on next mad road trip... ;o) )
That is beautiful. Not only can I see the inspiration...I can FEEL the inspiration. Love those Sierras!!!
